Love as the Law of The New Covenant in the Light of Deus Caritas Est by Benedict XVI

Summary/Abstract: The concept of Christian morality depends on the place that is given to love and how this love is expressed (its specificity). In the context of contemporary concepts of love and the loss of man in the field of love, it is particularly important to recognize the new commandment of love. Love is, on the one hand, a gift of God, and on the other – it has been clearly formulated as a commandment. In the following publication – based on the teachings of Pope Benedict contained in the encyclical Deus caritas est – the theme of love will be presented as the New Covenant law, expressed in the Jesus new commandment of love. This reflection will be an attempt to explain in what key to properly understand the new commandment of love, which Jesus proclaimed to his disciples and how it should be implemented in the life of a believer. For love is the heart of the morality of the New Covenant.
