Summary/Abstract: The name of József Makfalvi occurs in several registers of the reformed synods, as well as at the meetings of the Supremum Consistory for nearly two decades at the beginning of the 18th century. Two lawsuits are connected to his name. In 1734–35, it turned out that Makfalvi, who had recently returned from his studies in the Netherlands, spread heterodoxy. When his investigation was over, he engaged himself to keep the reformed creeds of Transylvania. With aristocratic help, in 1735 he was invited to become the minister of the congregation in Fogaras. At the end of the year 1741, he came into conflict with the consistory of Fogaras over his salary. The solution of the extremely complex issue was made even more difficult by the fact that, sometime around 1742, he started to preach about universalism again. After a while, the two cases were inevitably connected, forecasting the suspension of Makfalvi’s pastoral status.
