Summary/Abstract: The time from the coup in February 1948 until Stalin’s death in March 1953 can be seen as the era of the most open state terror in Czechoslovakia. The communist regime selectively as well as systematically liquidated whole social groups of inhabitants and brutally oppressed any signs of dissent. In this fear-stricken atmosphere, a group of women in Lichnov, the Krnov region in North Moravia, decided to express their resistance against the ruling regime in 1951–1952 in the form of threatening letters and leaflets, signed by the “Valley of Wolves”. The scheme was initiated by Ruzena Hruskova, then 19, later joined by her two friends, Olga Janoscova (20) and Helena Dostalova (17). The daring activity of these women, which stirred the quiet waters of the Krnov region, should not be forgotten.
