Summary/Abstract: The Old Believers are a specific example of Slavs in exile. Those, who did not accepted the reforms introduced by the patriarch Nikon in the Russian Orthodox Church in the middle of the 17th century, were persecuted both by civil and church authorities. To preserve their religious views, they had to abandon their homes and settle either in the middle-of-nowhere in Russia (inner emigration) or abroad (living in exile). The special issue of “Emigrantologia Słowian” is devoted to various aspects of life of the Old Believer emigration (language, history, culture, religion and literary heritage).
