Summary/Abstract: The current article presents part of the author’s research on the problem of medieval Pliska, provoked by the scarce information in the narrative historical sources, which has survived to the present day. The authors goal is to reveal through the archeological material the fate and the development of the residential zones in the Outer city of Pliska during the XIth century. In the chronological timeframe of the topic two important events definining the fate of the city are underlined – the final conquest of Pliska by Byzantium and the invasions of the late nomads. An attempt is made to trace the changes in the urban planing principals of the residential districts, caused by the destructions inflicted by the Pechenegs. In relation to this the following tasks are set: partial overview of the main written sources by contemporaneous chroniclers of those most close to the events, giving information about the processes concerning the fate of Pliska during the researched period. an attempt to trace the specifics established via archeological research of the more important architectural objects in the residential districts of the Outer city. The continuity and the architectural changes in the residential and the domestic aspects are considered as well as the specifics introduced by a new ethnical element.
