Summary/Abstract: The article presents different reasons for the phenomenon of living a lonely life in contemporary Polish society. The main aim of addressing this subject is to illustrate the opposing causes of such a lifestyle and answer the question whether singlism is the result of a person’s free choice or whether it is conditioned by unfortunate circumstances such as, for example, death of a wife or husband, divorce or abandonment.
