Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to make an initial review of the research on startups and ecosystems by using a selective literature review, as well as an empirical attempt to evaluate startup ecosystems in Visegrad countries. The paper compares startup ecosystems in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia by using Hellwing taxonomic method. As evidenced by the analysis, the Czech Republic has the best startup ecosystem among all Visegrad countries, while the least attractive can be found in Slovakia. In the case of Hungary and Poland, it can be observed that their startup ecosystem conditions are getting better.
