Summary/Abstract: The main aim of the article is to present a special educational needs teacher in terms of education politics in contemporary Poland. The article refers to the status of a special educational needs teacher in education law, and the formal conditions that have to be fulfilled to become one. The tasks of the special educational needs teacher are defined here, mainly those that distinguish him/her from other teaching professions. The article also deals with the issue of the competencies of the special educational needs teacher e.g. extraordinary competencies which are associated not only with working with their pupils, but also with their families and different institutions. At the end of this article personality traits of the special educational needs teacher have been presented e.g. patience, resolve, stamina, etc. Which a person working with people with special educational needs (SEN) and special development needs (SDE) should possess.
