Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with a memoir on the Jasenovac death camp, the extraordinary killing site on the territory of Yugoslavia, located in the wartime Independent State of Croatia. The first task was to reconstruct the biography of the author, Erwin Miller (1922–1991), member of the Jewish community of Vinkovci, and then to study the genesis of his memoir (two published versions in Serbo-Croatian, both edited i.e. incomplete), his motives for writing about Jasenovac four decades after the event, the structure and other features of the narrative, and to position his memoir in the context of published testimonies/memoirs of other Jasenovac survivors in a diachronical perspective.
