Summary/Abstract: This study examines a mother's parenting style and in particular her neglect of her child as risk factors for the development of avoidant personality disorders among Israeli school children aged 11-12. The findings of this study are based on qualitative, comparative research where two groups, each comprised of five Israeli mothers of children in the same age range and from the same school, were thoroughly interviewed about their parenting style. One group comprised mothers of regular children and the other of children who suffer from avoidant personality disorder. The findings of this research lead to the conclusion that parental neglect constitutes a significant factor contributing to the development of the avoidant personality disorder.
