Summary/Abstract: This paper explores the theme of xéniteia in early Egyptian monasticism. This ascetic practice was understood as a voluntary alienation, and from this perspective it was considered as a permanent way of life. Moreover, this spiritual exercise was the highest way of Christian life, and it was represented by Desert Fathers. Briefly, in this paper we will point out major meanings of monastic xéniteia, an essential feature of the ascetic tradition.
