Summary/Abstract: Ibn Hazm (d. 456/1064) an erudite and exceptional Zahiri (literalist) scholar of Andalus is a prominent thinker who had an influence on the later developments of Islamic thought with his works and style. His oppinions on the prophetic tradition (sunnah and hadith) have an essential position in understanding of his methodology and system which derived from the literal interpretation of the texts. In this respect, his approaches to the prophetic traditions give us interesting clues in understanding the zahiri mentality. This article aims briefly to present the essential ideas of Ibn Hazm on the prophetic tradition, and follow the sign of zahiri mentality in these ideas with special reference to his important methodological work al-Ihkam.
