Summary/Abstract: The first branches specialized in training the interpreters at the Moldova State University were founded in 1996. The interest in training specialists in the field of translation and conference interpreting in the Republic of Moldova has been promoted by the international institutions and partner universities, which contribute mainly to the training of trainers, to proof reading and developing of programs and curricula for the subjects included in the academic path. Despite an advantageous ground allowing performing the translation activity in Moldova, the training of specialists in this field has known different attitudes, fact that delayed the proper development of this domain. In our paper, we analyse the academic situation proper for the last 15 years since the Department of Translation, Interpretation and Applied Linguistics at the Moldova State University has been created. Nowadays, the specialists in the area of translation are trained in line with the European and international standards and requirements that are obviously oriented towards the acquisition of skills needed to carry out a qualitative activity in this domain.
