Summary/Abstract: The paper presents an overview of the situation regarding Romanian Sign Language, the needs that arise for academically-conducted research and higher education and/or continuous professional development training and the initiatives that have been fostered to date by the Department of Applied Modern Languages of the Faculty of Letters, Babeş-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca,initiatives that aim to address such needs.
