Summary/Abstract: Maritime security is a common necessity in terms of achieving the well-being and prosperity of the EU and the world. The extent of the seas and oceans stimulates commercial relations among states and economic growth, equally ensuring the need to protect and secure the marine environment. Achieving the security of commercial maritime transport and maintaining a balance on marine biodiversity are the medium and long-term objectives of the European Union.
