Summary/Abstract: When compared to intensive research of the redefinition of time in various aspects of science and culture, the publication Im Akt des Malens by Fabiana Cazzoli may be placed in the trend of anachronistic reinterpretation of the works of previous ages. In this case it is the update of the reading of great paintings, in particular the analysis of the amalgam of times flowing in the painting during the title act of painting, on the example of self-portraits of late Renaissance. By indicating the elements of works responsible for the implication of actions and setting the pace to the depicted events, the author proposes the typisation of individual times to put them in order and to reveal a multi-layered, non-linear character of narratives in the works of discussed type. The relation between image and time is a starting point for the exploration of a vast problem, i.e. the temporality in art and by combining the optics of classical (Vasari) and modern research (Bodehm), revises the traditional iconography of self-portrait and the academic interpretation thereof.
