Ethical dilemmas in probation officers’ work

Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the issue of probation officers’ ethical dilemmas confronted when working with people. It refers to issues related to professional ethics from the perspective of ethics theory and my own experience.The profession of probation officer has an irremovable ethical dimension. Probation officers, when executing court decisions, must comply with legal provisions for common and individual good. An obligation to care for persons under custody and to maintain professional secrecy, puts them in a morally difficult situation. The purpose of the publication is do draw readers’ attention do the ethical demension of the profession by probation officers and to moral dilemmas that they face while performing their tasks.
