Summary/Abstract: This article begins with addressing the 19th century relationships between the detective story and classical music, which were found, for example, in Charles Dickens’ or Arthur Conan Doyle’s works. Against this background, two of Jan Antoni Homa’s novels, Altowiolista (The Altoviolist) and Ostatni koncert (The Last Concert) are discussed as forming a separate musical detective story stream in the Polish literature. Further analysis concerns chosen aspects of these stories, the aspects which determine their musical nature, such as: the structure of the literary characters, the world depicted, the composition, the journalistic or essayistic digressions. A question is posed about the purpose of these works and about their potential readers.
