Summary/Abstract: The present article tackles upon the etymology of the word Satan on upon the Christian and Islamic studies devoted to him. In the first part, the present author describes the Catholic Church’s dogmatic studies concerning Satan (the reasons of his fall). In the second part, the present author focuses on the descriptions of Satan in Qur’an (the Islamic demonology). There are demonic creatures of the Islamic culture presented that may be identified with the Biblical Satan. Qur’an introduces two versions of the greatest humanity antagonist’s fall: the former is based upon the pre-Islamic beliefs; the latter is a typical syncretism of the Judaic-Christian beliefs and the Bedouin culture. The present author believes that the term and notion of Satan in Christianity and Islam – are of the same origin.
