Summary/Abstract: The article comparatively analyses the changes that have occurred in the teaching of English, this on the example of the Croatian language curriculum in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The period of the last 20 years has been marked by numerous political and economic changes in BiH. Likewise, technological advances and a strong development of IT knowledge leave an indelible mark in the education system in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Changes in the education system brought innovations which are particularly evident in the development of the curricula. The analysis of the eight-year in the Croatian language curriculum (from 1998) and the nine-year curriculum (from 2008) for the English language, showed noticeable changes reflecting themselves on the essential components of these curricula (the extent of the curriculum, organization and structure of teaching contents and objectives of teaching aims and tasks). It is obvious that a breakthrough has been made trying to modernize the teaching of English and to focus it more on the student, as well as the need to develop a specific content which is going to help a better child – language interrelationship. The documents have been partly harmonized with the requirements of the European Union because Bosnia and Herzegovina has been in the accession program of stabilization and association since 2006. The reform based on the 1996 Primary Education Act (“Zakoni o osnovnoj školi˝) started in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the school year 2003/2004. Possible recommendations related to the development and further changes of the curriculum, content and selection of teaching material from this study will also help organizers of future changes within the program of English language teaching when assessing the effectiveness of the existing curriculum structures of this language.
