FUTILE REVANCHISM AND DEMOCRACY - ON SOME PARALLELS BETWEEN FRENCH THIRD REPUBLIC AND POST-MILOŠEVIĆ SERBIA

Summary/Abstract: In the article the author is examining few parallels between the French Third republic and post-Milošević Serbia. He is dealing mostly with the phenomenon of (futile) revanchism in both countries, as well as with its impact on political life and perseverance of democracy. In the first period of its history (1871-1914), Third republic won the battle against revanchist challenge, provoked by the German amputation of Alsace and Lorraine. Nowdays, it is uncertain wheteher the young democracy in Serbia is capable of withstanding the same challenge, generated by the unsolved question of Kosovo and Metohija.
