Summary/Abstract: The coronation of miraculous images was the ultimate proof of reverence for Mother of God. In Poland, throughout the history, twenty eight images was crowned with the papal consent. The coronation of Our Lady of Częstochowa on September 8, 1717, was the first act of this kind that took place outside Italy. The print played an important role in the efforts leading to the coronation and later – in popularization of the miraculous image. To date 169 copies of prints related to the coronation have been identified. The prints describe the cult, history of the image, miracles and the very act of coronation. Sermons preached at the coronations, prayer books and songs were published in large numbers. These texts, some of them illustrated, give the best idea of the splendour of this theatrum coronationis. They contributed to the popularization of pilgrimage centers and ideas that made Mary the Queen of Poland.
