Summary/Abstract: This case study seeks to understand the dominant concepts, strategies and actors in Czechoslovak scientific diplomacy surrounding the initial stages of the Japanese “economic miracle”, which found strong echoes in the media, academic and political spheres of Communist Czechoslovakia. An integral part of this scientific diplomacy included technology transfers, which unintentionally helped to generate a dichotomy among Czechoslovak natural, technical and humanities specialists.
