Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the position of girls in ancient Athens. The author describes the young Athenian girls` place at the household, their social role and participation in the rituals. Their childhood was the time of preparations for their lives as adults – wives and mothers. The acquired skills were helpful at their own households The Athenian girls’ participation in rites-related duties also shows how important they were not only for the Athenian girls but also for women in general.
