Summary/Abstract: Subject of study in this work is the marked gramema of the lexical-grammatical category – aspect of the verb in New Greek language. Our interest in the problem has occurred for two reasons. Firstly, we will note that in Greek linguistics (different from the Bulgarian language) the gramemas completed and uncompleted aspect are formed respectively from two stems (the aorist stem and the present stem). Secondly, the Greek scholars argue that the aspect of the verb is morphologically encoded in the verbal stem. The statement is reasonable, but it is important to emphasize that the perfective verbs are formed by the imperfective verbs (+/-σ sigma morpheme). This fact is noted by the authors. However, the researchers ignore the issue of the formal markers. Therefore, they also do not pay attention to the question of which the marked gramema is in the aspectual opposition.
