Summary/Abstract: The article is a presentation of the author's own method of basic phonological abilities development of children with reading and writing difficulties. These abilities (distinguishing phonemes and connecting them) contribute to phonological competence (awareness) and, as the research shows, are necessary in the initial phase of reading and writing. The author presents rules of forming, together with the child, the so-called phonological pictographic alphabet and linguistic criteria of the choice of practice material, which is aimed to teach phoneme segmentation. This educational offer is theoretically justified.
