Summary/Abstract: The study focuses on the theory of fiction worlds and is primarily based on the theory of the fantastic and possible worlds semantics of Nancy H. Traill. Traill's classification of modes is being applied to an analysis of J. M. Merino's short stories. The study enriches Traill's modes with another one which seems to be typical for the modern fantastic of the 20th and 21st centuries.
