Summary/Abstract: In his feature Father Wincenty Myszor describes the way the Christians before the Council of Nicaea had defined orthodoxy, i.e. what is “just”, and heresy, i.e. erroneous beliefs. The author presents orthodoxy, using the example of the beginnings of Christianity, as a conviction that the faith was pure in origin. In the 2nd and 3rd century Gnosticism was perceived to be the most common example of heresy. Myszor compares the two concepts because one cannot be defined without knowing what is the other. New, recently discovered sources allow an objective observation of the fight between heresy and orthodoxy that had taken place in the first centuries of Christianity.
