Literary Studies at the Crossroads: The Strategies of “Co-optation”

Summary/Abstract: Over the last decades, we have frequently seen the professionals of literary studies take risky plunges into the very avant-garde of science – such as quantum physics or the theory of chaos – in an attempt to spice up their hypotheses on the loose nature of the artistic experience or to single out any possible homology between literary genres and scientific vocabularies. At least on the speculative level, an intensive two-way traffic of concepts and methods is right now under way.
