Summary/Abstract: As the authors of different research orientations rightly point out, contemporary film theory puts the viewer in the centre of its reflections. Differences that occur between different traditions in this matter are related to different ways of understanding subjectivity. It is a problem that goes beyond the purely cinematographic ground and refers to the rich contexts of philosophy, psychology, biology, and sociology. In the text presented, the author focuses on the dispute about the subjectivity of the viewer, which takes place between cognitivism and post-structuralism. In the first part, Wyczyński outlines the basic differences between these approaches. Then he attempts to show that there is no absolute gap between cognitivism and post-structuralism and that these traditions can permeate each other with good results. Such a view was founded on a vision of unstable subjectivity, the understanding of which requires joining of various viewpoints.
