Healthcare Public-Private Partnerships in the United Kingdom

Summary/Abstract: In this paper, the author researches the concept, historical development, regulation, institutional support of public-private partnership and public-private partnership in the field of health care in the United Kingdom. Firstly, the author presents an overview of the concepts of the public-private partnership (PPP) which captures the attention of many authors since there is no universal definition. Furthermore, the historical aspect of PPP leads to the United Kingdom that is considered a cradle of the same. Hereinafter, the author considers the institutional and regulatory arrangements of PPP in the UK and the PPP model in the field of health care in the UK. However, in spite of the contradictory opinions, the author points out the fact that the last three decades have been characterized by a steady increase in the role of the private sector in the healthcare system of the United Kingdom. Therefore, author examines the reasons for this tendency.
