Conversational signals of emotions in a talk

Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the analysis and interpretation of signals of emotions in a talk.Full and complete investigation of interlocutors` emotional involvement is possible in thecontext of adjacent utterances. The linguistic tool that makes it possible is the conversationalanalysis methodology, which is based on the real conversations. In this paper suchthe conversations analyzed are the institutional talk as well as telephonic emergency call.In both of the types of conversation, the emotional signals reveal. The signals are: intonation,tone of the voice, louder talking, interruptions, overlaps, and talk-script-conflict.By these crucial issues, the paper shows how the preference organization of talk affects theinterlocutors` emotional behaviors: the dispreferred turns evoke the emotional engaging.
