Summary/Abstract: Ivan Szelenyi, famous Hungarian sociologist, has worked on problems of relation between social structure and housing in socialist countries, specially in Hungary. Szelenyi has discussed housing as one of the major elements in satisfying basic human needs and, therefore, he thinks that distribution of housing has big significance for creating and maintaining social inequalities. In state socialism methods of distribution help to riches, and make difficulties to poor persons. Such distribution is not effect of some irregularity, it reflects logic of system and dominate social relations. Szelenyi, in his work, unites three approaches to this problem: historical causal, structuralfunctional and social-anthropological.
