EVALUATION OF AGRICULTURAL SUPPORTS IN TURKEY AND EUROPEAN UNION

Summary/Abstract: This study aims to evaluate the applied agricultural supports policy in Turkey and European Union. In this study based on share of agricultural supports in the budget and share of agriculture sector in GDP and employment in 2006-2016 and made comparative analysis of European Union countries and Turkey. According to obtained data, although share of agricultural sector reduced in the economy it has one of five of employment that is supported seriously in Turkey. It is observed that agricultural supports amount has increased, but its share reduced in Turkey budget recently. In European Union which established first common policy in agriculture and allocated significant fund for agricultural supports. Despite declining the share in European Union budget, share of expenditures of common agriculture policy is about %40 in total European Union expenditures. It is quite necessary increase agricultural supports which has %2 share in budget of Turkey. In this respect, it will be possible to increase the level of competitiveness of the agricultural sector and to reduce the foreign dependence.
