Summary/Abstract: Modern education requires that we look at teachers from a different viewpoint. The aim of thisarticle is to contribute to the discussion about the work of an early childhood teacher, the rolesthey play, and the tasks and functions they fulfil. The author of the article searches for guides forthe teaching profession through two pedagogical concepts: those of Italian doctor and educatorMaria Montessori and of the American teacher Helen Parkhurst. In the article, the author brieflyexplains the assumptions underlying the Montessori concept and the Dalton laboratory plan, andemphasizes their everlasting value. The author draws particular attention to the behaviours of theteachers and regulations imposed on educators working with foster children and presents responsibilities of the teachers toward the student and toward themselves. The author suggests that thefulfilment of responsibilities assigned to any teacher (not only Montessori or Dalton teachers)ought to signal the path toward professional conduct and meeting community expectations.
