Summary/Abstract: Kolinko develops a typology of diaries written by women and girls in the nineteenth century. She proposes concepts of the personal document related to this genre, such as the diary-letter, the secret diary, the controlled diary and a mother’s journal for her child. Kolinko also examines how these different types relate to one another and highlights the common practice where a writer would keep several journals at the same time.
