Ars Sine Scientia Nihil Est: A Response to Łukasz Cybulski’s Presentation

Summary/Abstract: Without entering into a detailed polemic with Łukasz Cybulski, Dąbrówka disagrees with his conclusion that literary practices of the past should exceed our speculations as to its function. Every practice follows a certain theory whose formulation allows us not only to understand historical practices but also to fill the gaps in our knowledge left by missing material documentation. The fundamental theory is old literary rhetorics, which gains heuristic value thanks to new perspectives on the ontology of the work of art and constructivist textual scholarship.
