Summary/Abstract: Marcin Czechowic was the longtime leader of the Unitarian community in Lesser Poland. His key work, Rozmowy chrystyjańskie [Christian Conversations], was published in Cracow in 1575 and is usually classified as a catechism, although it also displays many of the characteristics of a doctrinal dialogue. Ryszka-Kurczab re-examines the work in terms of genre. The most important aspects supporting its association with the doctrinal dialogue are: 1) the focus on religious matters and a polemical and apologetic presentation; 2) the literary imitation of a fictional conversation between Teacher and Student, accompanied by an outline of elements of the dialogue’s depicted world; 3) discursivity, the absence of a plot and the emphasis on argumentation, whereby the method corresponds to contemporary ways of conducting a disputation (ars disputandi).
