Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the role of generations of authors in the generational novel, namely generations of 1968 and 1989. The work is based on research of the important works of famous scientists (A. Assmann, D. Chuhunov, N. Leonhard, H. Kenig and other). The research demonstrates, that belonging German speaking writers to the different generations takes the form of the varies opinions about past experience, namely The World War II and National Socialism in German. Both generations realize the call of the history in their own way und aspire to interpret its sad pages ones more basing on their own experience and persuasion. This was especially shown in the works “Pawel's letter” written by M. Maron and “Heavenly bodies” by T. Dückers. The results of the research show that writers present different generations, but for all that they both ask oneself a questions about memory of generation, responsibility and fault of German nation and at the same time underline different accents. In this article the culture-historical method is used, a lot of attention is paid to the biographical analyze. Scientific novelty contains the try to describe the role of writers' generations in the generational novel for the first time and to make analysis of conceptions “generation” in modern German literature. Despite the actuality of such problem of the generational novel and the existing works this theme is analyzed only a little. That is the reason for research on this topic.
