Summary/Abstract: The discussions of life styles and quality of life which in the past decade have become popular in socio-medical debates presuppose the possibility of choice human, social, cultural; and only then health and medical choice. As in several cases in its history these possibilities are in medicine taken as unproblematic. They are simply presupposed and taken as given facte independent of the social context and the civilizational moment in which they appear as values.
