Summary/Abstract: The history of this faculty started with the creation of a research unit, dedicated to Romania’s synchronization to the current European culture, called The Institute of Study of Modernity, which was inaugurated within the “Babes Bolyai” University, in 19911. Since the experience of present and foreseeable future probing was successful and alluring, after I took over the position of rector of the “Babes Bolyai” University, in 1993, and considering Romania’s perceptible needs, I had discussions regarding a possible post-graduate programme of European studies within “Babes Bolyai” University, the invitation to these discussions coming from German, French and Belgian universities. At this point I changed the Office of International Relations into The Department of International Relations of the “Babeş Bolyai” University (which, in 2001, would become The Centre of International Cooperation), and this department started the technical elaboration of the project called The School of Comparative European Studies. In the spring of 1994, I took part in several meetings concerning the final stage of the project at the universities of Münster and Bruxelles (ULB), so that, having the support of these two universities and also of the “Robert Schumann” University from Strassbourg, Universita Statale degli Studi from Milan, Bradford University, Universita Catolica “Sacro Cuore” from Milan, the project was presented to the European Commission, within the TEMPUS programme.
