Summary/Abstract: The article reviews the history of an unpublished declaration of the Polish Episcopate, which mentioned, among other issues, the question of antisemitism and of Polish-Jewish relations in the wake of the March 1969 developments. The author presents the strong presence of erroneous perceptions concerning the said document in historiography, describes the Church and the Jews in Poland in the 1960s, refers to the resolutions of the 2nd Vatican Council. The author looks at the whole process of discussions among the bishops in the spring of 1968 on antisemitism and Polish-Jewish relations. A factographic reconstruction makes it possible to identify the circumstances and the moment when it was decided that the declaration is not going to be issued. The history of this document is just one of a number of threads illustrating the attitude of the Church toward the Jewish aspects of the Polish March ’68 developments, but the debate over the declaration received the most attention from the Church elders and provoked them to make statements about the Jews or antisemitism.
