Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the pericope Lk 19:1–10. It analyzes its narrative structure and seeks to uncover its theological message. The story depicts the chief tax collector Zacchaeus as an im pressive example of how a meeting with Jesus can transform the life of a person whose conduct has not been impeccable. Zacchaeus decides to change his life. The last verse of the pericope, i.e. 19:10, characterizes the activity of Jesus as the one who seeks and saves sinful people. This is valid not only for the narrative about Zacchaeus, but also expresses the essential significance of the whole mission of Jesus.
