Summary/Abstract: Man and humanity in general reached a critical point when they asked themselves more and more frequently where all this progress was headed and whether this was really the thing that could make man happy and give meaning to his efforts. This was going on for quite some time at the level of natural sciences and technology. The 20th century was characterized by numerous movements showing that, for the first time in history, man wanted to protect his existence from himself and was for the first time aware that his irresponsible conduct towards his environment could be catastrophic for the survival of the human species. Yet the responsibility for saving the planet Earth is not just a task of natural sciences. Also humanities, with theology in an important position, give an increasing prominence to raising the awareness of man as the only one responsible for the preservation of the planet. Already in the first years after Vatican II some important Slovenian theologians referred to the responsibility of man as a created being for the preservation of his environment.
