Summary/Abstract: The family is a community in which a child is an integral part and in which it is developing intellectually, physically, emotionally, socially, morally... Within the family a child meets the basic needs, such as the need for love, the need for security, the need to belong, the need for respect... Children need love, authority, respect, time, care, praise, understanding, support, tolerance, forgiveness, patience, joy, laughter, honesty, truth, justice, meaning, knowledge, skills... Unfortunately, some children get: strife, impatience, intolerance, misunderstanding, rudeness, lies, injustice, pain, fear, disrespect, disregard, failure, loss of meaning in life... All this causes the children feel frustrated, unhappy, and want to get out of that relationship, because the family does not meet the needs of children in an appropriate manner and offers dysfunctional behaviour patterns. One of the ways that a child can prove itself, to meet its needs, to be accepted is the expression of socially unacceptable behaviour. The aim is to explore the characteristics of families whose children are using the services of the “CPI Disciplinary center for juveniles” Sarajevo. The results showed that: a) the majority of children of service users are male, b) that the majority of service users aged between 16 and 17 years c) the majority of children live in families with both parents; d) most parents have completed high school education; e) most of the parents are employed; f) the most number of treatments are carried out on request by the parents. The mission and activities of the society should be directed towards primary prevention, which basically has education - creating a positive, young person who does not need to attract attention, to satisfy the needs, raise self-esteem, self-confidence and self-image through the expression of socially unacceptable behaviour. In that process, the society has an obligation to strengthen the family so that they carry out their primary task - to raise a child in the best possible way. Disciplinary Center is one of the factors with which the society provides help and support families in overcoming challenges during the education of their own child.
