Summary/Abstract: Autonomous status of Turkey Radio and Television Corporation, has been bothered all circles since it gain this status. Governments were aware of the importance of the radio, and in particular the importance of television. Therefore, it is understandable the effort to control state television in societies where the culture of democracy is not fully established. Not only the government, but the military and the bureaucratic structure wanted to keep TRT under control. This also highlights once again the importance of TRT as a sole public service broadcaster for Turkey. This period, which extended from the 1971 Memorandum to the 1980 military coup, was the beginning of the development of Turkish television, the beginning of local productions, the loss of the autonomy of TRT and its transition to the control of the sovereign powers.
