Summary/Abstract: The article presents and analyses some widespread myths about translation. After the interpretation of language myths in general, it describes such translational myths as the following: translating means replacing words; the word is the unity of the translation; translating is finding lexical meanings defined in dictionaries; any bilingual person can translate. The author presents scientific arguments against these misleading conceptions about translation, and emphasizes the necessity of describing other translational myths rooted in ordinary thinking.
