Summary/Abstract: This paper follows the public debates in Italy after the 2018’s national elections. Since the latest elections, Italy is on its way to a reluctant position on the international stage due to a populist argumentation of the government, with strong narratives against the European Union and controversial positions on topics of high relevance for the international system. Meanwhile Italy is confronting with a severe economic crisis that might have an overwhelming effect on long-term. The paper also aims to decipher how European policy-maker will treat the Italian government in the context of Brexit.
