Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the emergence, evolution and functions of the pleqnia — the customary dispute settlement institution of the Albanian's, widely used in the .time when there was no state created law. Its positive function consisted in settling disputes among families in conflict, and thus ending feuds in general and blood feuds in particular.
