Summary/Abstract: The traditional press currently finds itself in the middle of a profound crisis: its role as a pillar of democracy is being intensely questioned. New / modern /contemporary / digital forms of media are offering journalists a renewed chance of survival in an increasingly saturated landscape, while the more traditional media have been seized by political and economic interests which have led to a grave distortion of the medium’s functions and objectives. In order to succeed in these trying times, the written press needs to be able to consistently find creative ways of reinventing itself. The education, voice, ethics and professional morals reflected by journalists are all prerequisites for safeguarding one of the noblest professions in the history of human civilization.
